WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE EDITOR, JOURNALIST, PHOTOGRAPHER (WHATEVER) OF ANTHILL MAGAZINE?

Not so long ago, we trialled an experiment in ‘new economy’ journalism that we dubbed Magazine 2.0.
We asked you, our readers, to share your best business tips, through our blog, for publication in Anthill Magazine. The response was so overwhelming, we were forced to turn the proposed column into a series.
Never ones to leave a good idea dormant, we’ve decided to take this experiment not just one step further but to its logical conclusion.
Here’s our audacious goal: We intend to produce the world’s first entirely reader-generated business magazine for publication this December.
We’ll be asking you, our readers, to suggest the people we profile.
We’ll be asking you to nominate the questions we ask.
We’ll be asking you to share your business stories through case studies.
We’ll be asking you to share your expertise through opinion pieces and columns.
We make no promises. We may not pull it off.
But we’re going to do our darnedest to do as we do best - turn conventional business practices on their head.
Of course, there’ll be some rules (and we might have to make up some extra rules as we go along).

- Of course, we’ll be deeming your participation in this exercise as consent for us to use your comments for publication, permission for us to sub-edit and as a demonstration that you have agreed to our standard Terms & Conditions.

Our promise is that we’ll try to keep up our end of the bargain as best we can, without compromising the quality of Anthill Magazine (or getting sued).

When you say, “would you like to be editor…” are you cleverly leaving out the ’sub-’ that would fall before it, or is there really a chance that I could score the pole position of editor for this special issue, including my picture and MY editor’s note appearing in the front of the mag? (this is a serious question)

The ever ticking entrepreneurial mind, eh?
The Magazine 2.0 Experiment is just that: An experiment.
Of the 211 individuals who have already registered to participate, some will offer a headline, some will offer a story, some may even pen an article. How do we intend to reward all these people for their varying levels of support?
In the short term, honestly, we have no idea.
Although I do believe that in most cases additional exposure and the experience itself is likely to offer greater remuneration than we could ever provide in mere dollars and cents.
Will we get richer from the spoils of reader toils? Sadly, it’s very unlikely.
In fact, the Anthill Board recommended against this ‘experiment’ as it would be more cost effective for us to pursue traditional channels. But the collective gut of the editorial team said, ‘What the f#%K’. The concept of a magazine largely developed by our readers was simply too intriguing to pass up.
Will one of our lucky readers be named editor?
Once again, this is an experiment and Carlee has identified another unknown. I can only assume that some contributors will be more active and hands on than others, so they probably will deserve some extra recognition. Only time will tell.
We’ll be learning along with you, our readers, about how to manage what we’ve already described as an audacious project. The best answer I can give to all the questions we’ve been receiving is quite simply, ‘Watch this space’.

hi, it all sounds great.
i just finished a thesis in business psychology and i was thinking of taking elements of that and writing an article about some of the findings that were made. should i provide standard referencing of all sources that are listed within that article?? are there any guidelines provided about required format and structure?

I’d love to interview one of the leaders from the thriving local video game development industry: John De Margheriti, Tom Crago, Steve Fawkner, Mike Fegan, Rob Walsh or others.
I’ve previously had some involvement with the industry and find it fascinating. It’s a highly under reported export success story, facing interesting challenges ahead.
All of those guys speak passionately about what they do and could give great insight on how the industry developed and how they plan to tackle the challenges facing the industry.
